So the three missing first names are Rich (bottom left), Jill (Rob right), and Pam (between Rob and Ben. I may have switched Jill and Pam. No idea about last names. It was August 1980." Chris Matlack
This appears to be Cohort V that received their training in the summer of 1980 in M'Baiki. Cohort IV came into being shortly after the French-backed coup that removed Bokassa from power in late 1979. Training was put together quickly to keep the fish program on-track. We started with a couple of weeks training at Auburn University in Alabama in early January 1980. From there, we went directly to the CAR and finished the rest of our training at the M'baiki agriculture college. Ben Way was was the technical trainer assisted by Rob Dimarzo. The Cohort IV vols were Cathy Lane, Ruth Guyere, Gail Center (switched programs from Math teacher to fish), Naomi Dybdahl, Roy Hermann, and myself, Tim Romocki. I became the Fish PCVL with Karen Moleski's completion of service in late 1980. After completion of my PC service in 1982, I became a USAID contractor working with CAR PCVs in fish, rice and beekeeping. I left Bangui in 1986 only to return in February 1987. to marry the love of my life, LaHoma Smith, who was the APCD for health.
