Chris Walter and Tim Crow with festive Christmas Tree

"Our counterparts had gone home to Bangui for the holiday.  Tim and I took a couple of days off work from doing wells work in the Kabo area and drove to Sahr.  I believe the photo was taken on Christmas Eve. Otherwise, it was Christmas evening. It was the only Christmassey thing we did, and it fun to acknowledge it that way.  Sahr was so pleasant.  Sandy dusty streets.  A big open market. A bar with cold Gala.  We drove back through Moissala Chad, crossing back into the CAR where there was no type of government presence.  In fact, there was no bridge over the stream and gully that seems to have marked the border.  We tried driving through the gully but got stuck in a mass of brush on the climb up the bank.  It took a lot of work by a group of boys and men from a small village on the Chadian side to dig and cut and push us up and out.  Without their help we might have been there a very long time. Tim compensated them with cigarettes and everyone was happy."  Chris Walter
