“Ann Marie was our coffee lady at the marché, and Patrick her
son. Little did we know that her husband
was the “mishwe” man in the market,
and quite a jealous fellow at that.
He found Ann Marie's copy of the photo and had the police round up Ben and me, suspecting us of having an
affair with his wife. There were moments
of anxiety in the police station at the top of the hill. But, the next day all was fine, book-ended by coffee and mishwe. Bill was an arrive-alone math volunteer sent to M’Baiki for
orientation.” Rob Leutheuser
